I disagree with Cy Northrop ("Repeal 2nd Amendment," Jan. 11) who thinks the Second Amendment should be repealed. His reasoning is that a 911 call to get police assistance is all the protection we need. Apparently, he does not have any experience with 911 response time.
Last year, in Tulsa, I made a 911 call for police support. The phone rang 10 or 15 times before it was answered. That responder only asked which emergency service that I needed. She then connected me to the police line, which also rang 10 or 15 times before being answered.
Those two minutes plus a five- or 10-minute response time by the police would be like an eternity if I had been confronted by someone breaking into my house or attacking me.
I believe that the Second Amendment is as relevant today as it was the day it was written. Self defense is a right that should never be repealed.
