7-8 overall, 4-1 Southland
Catching up: Because ORU secured a 58-41 road triumph at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and because Sam Houston State handed Central Arkansas its first Southland Conference defeat, the Golden Eagles found themselves in a four-way tie atop the league standings after Thursday's games.
Player to watch: Junior guard Christian Key established new career-high scoring totals each of the past two games, scoring 20 points in a Saturday victory over Stephen F. Austin and 21 Thursday at Corpus Christi.
Notes
Meet the neighbors: Coach Misti Cussen was asked about the get-to-know-you process regarding league opponents since ORU is in year one of Southland Conference membership.
"It's an eternal nonconference season right now," Cussen in reference to the Golden Eagles continually facing unfamiliar opponents.
Cussen said it reminds her of when she first came to ORU as an assistant coach. The Golden Eagles did not belong to a conference then and they competed as an independent, which translated into a schedule full of "strangers."
Tough enough: Did a difficult nonconference schedule prepare ORU for league play? The Golden Eagles played the nation's 13th-toughest nonconference schedule, according to RPIRankings.com.
