Four men charged with Tulsa's first 2013 killing

Four men were charged Friday in connection with the city's first homicide of the year.

Jamal Dante Long, 19; Deonta Deangelo Dixon, 21; Warren David Dixon, 29; and Sean Collins, 18, were all charged in Tulsa County District Court with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Ronnie Leon Stanley.

Stanley, 31, was shot to death Jan. 4 in the 1800 block of North St. Louis Avenue.

Collins was arrested Jan. 7. The other three suspects were captured within a few hours of the killing.

According to an arrest report, Long told police that Stanley and Long's alleged accomplices had an ongoing dispute over money.

Long said two men he was with walked up to Stanley carrying a .380-caliber handgun and a 9 mm handgun and fired several shots, hitting the victim, the report says. All four men then fled in a stolen van, police believe.

Police later found a .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun in the van and a 9 mm magazine in Long's pants, they said. Officers also matched shoe prints found at the scene to Long's and Deonta Dixon's shoes, they said.

All four men remained in the Tulsa Jail on Friday night.

Girl abducted, sexually assaulted in Glenpool

GLENPOOL - Police are investigating the abduction and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl on Jan. 8.

The girl was walking home from school between 4 and 4:30 p.m. when a man in a white Jeep Cherokee took her against her will from the 400 block of 138th Place and sexually assaulted her at two locations, Police Chief Dennis Waller said.

The girl told police the man took her to what appeared to be a construction site, which had a locked gate and was near some railroad tracks, before a woman approached the vehicle and asked why he was there, Waller said.

The girl's attacker spoke to the woman through a crack in the window before driving to another location and continuing the assault, she told police.

The man returned the girl to her home two hours later.

He is described as an older white man with gray hair, a beard and glasses. The girl said her attacker was between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall and weighed about 250 pounds.

The Jeep Cherokee is possibly a model from the early 1990s.

The attempted abduction of another girl was reported the same day, but police do not believe that the incidents are related because the vehicle descriptions do not match.

Anyone with information is asked to call Glenpool police at 918-322-8110 or Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.

The state Medical Examiner's Office released the name of a man who died during a house fire Monday.

A man was found unconscious in a burning home in the 1600 block of West Newton Street, firefighters said. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

A spokeswoman with the Medical Examiner's Office said Kenneth Horton, 72, died Monday at that location.

Fire investigators found several potential sources for the blaze, which was accidental, Fire Capt. Stan May said.

A space heater, an overloaded extension cord, an oxygen tank, smoking materials and flammable objects, including magazines, were all found in the area where the fire ignited, he said.

Pawhuska man is found dead in fire-ravaged house

PAWHUSKA - A fire that was reported about midnight Thursday night claimed the life of a Pawhuska man who was found in his bathtub.

When firefighters arrived at 12:03 a.m., the house was engulfed in flames that were so intense that when they were told a person was trapped inside, they could not enter to rescue the man, according to firefighters.

Pawhuska Police Chief Scott Laird identified the victim as Daryl Tom Deering, 47.

An agent with the state Fire Marshal's Office was at the scene early Friday and surmised that the fire might have been sparked by a cigarette, police said.

Ten firefighters fought the blaze for more than six hours and were called back to the scene twice when it rekindled during the day Friday.
