It's been a little while since I posted a roundup, but news has been a bit slow on the spoiler front for the holidays. However things are picking up and we're finding out a lot about some upcoming movies and shows:

'Star Trek' update

A lot of tiny bits of information have surfaced over the holidays in regard to "Star Trek." Apparently there are more than 1,400 effects shots in the film, as well as meticulous detail added to the makeup of the actors. The film is being shot in IMAX and 3-D, so we will see so much more detail in props and makeup that could have been missed in the first movie.

We also found out we would not only see Klingons, but also some of their makeup and wardrobe would be an homage to the original series.

Even their hair would be shorter to more closely match the original series' version, but the forehead ridges will be kept.

'Jurassic Park IV' has a release date

Just when you thought those horrible dino-men were the last breath of the fourth installment, we find out that Universal has set a release date for the movie: June 13, 2014. Spielberg will be producing the film, but no director has been named yet. Writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver will be writing the script (after a long line of writers).

Hopefully there will be no sign of the dinosaur men.

Disney announces dates, cans the fish princess

2014 will be a huge year for Disney.

"Muppets 2" is slated for March 21, 2014, "Captain America: Winter Soldier" is releasing on April 4, 2014, and "Guardians of the Galaxy" will beam in on Aug. 1, 2014.

It will also be a good year for Marvel, assuming "Guardians of the Galaxy" does well at the box office. Even so, I predict the Captain America movie will do well regardless.

"The Little Mermaid" slated for re-release in 3-D on Sept. 13 will not be happening. I guess she won't be part of the 3-D world.

"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will release on July 10, 2015, in hopes that it will join other summer movies in blockbuster status.

'Hunger Games' news

Lionsgate has been releasing a steady stream of content for the upcoming "Catching Fire" movie. We've seen Jennifer Lawrence and company in surf outfits, as well as other behind-the-scenes images showing the stars from the first movie.

Of course, when you have a dystopian future where most people die by the end of the first movie, you would need a few new actors.

Returning to the movie will be Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci and Woody Harrelson. We'll also see the addition of Sam Claflin, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright and Amanda Plummer.

Without major spoilers, it would be safe to say the movie will follow the book in its logical progression of Katniss and Peeta touring the districts of Panem in victory.
