MUSKOGEE — A Texas man has pleaded guilty to a charge accusing him of passing counterfeit money at a Walmart in Seminole.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said 35-year-old Charles Wesley Sims of Snyder, Texas, pleaded guilty Tuesday to uttering a counterfeit instrument. Sentencing will be later.

Sims was indicted in November after he allegedly used $5 bills doctored to make them look like $100 bills and passed them at a Walmart.

The maximum sentence for the counterfeiting conviction is up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
