Letter to the Editor: Hero and patriot

A hero is someone who makes sacrifices for the good of others, and expects nothing in return.
A patriot is someone who loves his or her country and would do anything to ensure its safety and well-being.
I was drafted at the age of 18. My country called and I went to a faraway land, laid my life on the line daily and became a hero.
I was an infantry soldier in the Army and carried a rifle in that so-called Vietnam War.
I came home a patriot and am very proud of that.
