With her injured left hand in a brace, Bixby guard Christina Devers started Thursday vs. Skiatook in the first round of Catoosa Port City Classic and scored 22 of her 25 points in the first half, pacing the 6A No. 2 Spartans’ 60-29 win.
It was Devers’ first action since breaking her left thumb against Sapulpa last Friday night and missing Tuesday's loss at Jenks. She said Tuesday night that the injury was painful, but she planned to do everything she could to get back on the floor.
The Spartans (11-3) played without senior forward Stevi Parker for the third consecutive game. Parker is expected to miss another three to four weeks with a stress fracture in her right foot.
Bixby advanced to play Cascia Hall at 4 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. The 4A No. 6 Commandos got 19 points and 10 rebounds from Liesl Spoerl to turn back 4A No. 16 Victory Christian 52-40.
Bartlesville (12-0) powered past Claremore 57-41 behind Hailey Tucker’s 16 points and advanced to the 7 p.m. semifinal. The Bruins await the winner of Thursday’s final first-round game between 3A No. 5 Verdigris and host Catoosa.
In Kiefer’s Dave Calvert Invitational, 3A No. 17 Kellyville placed three players in double figures in powering to a 56-47 first-round win over Depew.
Taylor Todd scored 16 points, Keana Upshaw had 14 and Hannah Robinson added 11 as the Ponies (12-3) won their eighth straight game.
