Letter to the Editor: Unusual punishment?

The solution to stopping mass murders such as the Newtown massacre is to make the punishment fit the crime. Even if the murderer kills himself after the act, he can be further punished. For instance, alive or dead, he can be tied to a post and relatives of the slain victims can be allowed to use any weapon they choose on him.

The prospect of such punishment would probably deter most people, even the mentally disturbed.
