NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma said it received nearly $140 million in private gifts in the past six months.
The university said it received $139.7 million in private gifts for the six-month period ending Dec. 31. That amount is a record high for any six-month period. The school received $85 million in the same period last fiscal year.
OU President David Boren said the private gifts are especially important when state budgets are tight.
The numbers were released this week at a regular meeting for the OU Board of Regents in Norman.
OU also said its Campaign for Scholarships has grown to $214 million in gifts and commitments. That's up $24 million from the same time a year ago. The campaign raises money for privately funded scholarships for OU students.
