15-3 overall, 5-1 Big 12
Catching up: The Sooners were given a much-needed week off after their 69-56 victory over Texas last Saturday. The winless-in-conference Longhorns stayed close for a half before OU used a 12-5 run to open the second half to pull away. Aaryn Ellenberg led all scorers with 22 points.
Player to watch: Ellenberg now has scored at least 20 points nine times this season, and six times since OU lost Whitney Hand to a season-ending knee injury Dec. 6. Ellenberg enters today's game at Baylor with 1,435 career points, good for 13th on the Sooners' all-time list.
Notes
Griner awaits: OU travels to No. 1 Baylor Saturday for an 11 a.m. tipoff. The Bears are 17-1 and have won 29 consecutive regular-season Big 12 Conference games. Baylor center Brittney Griner needs 18 points to become the Big 12's all-time scoring leader.
Midseason vacation: Commenting on OU's week off, coach Sherri Coale said: "It's an opportunity to breathe more than anything. You let your body settle down for a little bit. The games come so fast. Now there's a sense of familiarity. We sort of have an idea of what this grind is about...
"I like it right here. We have enough of a taste of what's going on and we have positioned ourselves really well, so we can step back and take a realistic look at what we've done and what's ahead, then go attack it. We're going to be on an ascension."
