7-11 overall, 2-3 C-USA

Catching up: With nine seconds remaining in Thursday's Conference USA basketball game at the Reynolds Center, Central Florida's Genevia Carter misfired on a 3-point shot attempt. University of Tulsa forward Loren McDaniel rebounded, and the Golden Hurricane held on for a 54-51 victory. On Sunday, despite a 14-point, 10-rebound performance by Taleya Mayberry, TU was beaten 69-63 at East Carolina.

Player to watch: During the victory over Central Florida, Mayberry scored 22 points while McDaniel and Tiffani Couisnard finished with a combined total of 25 rebounds. In C-USA, Mayberry ranks No. 2 in scoring at 19.3 points per game.

Notes

'Huge' victory: Despite shooting only 29 percent from the field, along with committing 18 turnovers and getting outscored 17-4 in bench points, the Hurricane outlasted Central Florida, improving to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in C-USA.

The Hurricane rallied from a 10-point, first-half deficit.

"I thought the way that we won tonight was huge," Tulsa coach Matilda Mossman said. "We haven't been good at finishing halves, whether it's the first or second half. I don't want to play those games all the time where you have to grind it out.

"The fact that we came out with a win tonight ... will pay dividends down the road."
