8-9 overall, 5-2 Southland

Catching up: ORU, in its most recent game, blew out co-Southland leader Lamar. What does that mean? "It's an affirmation that we have a lot left in us is the best way I can say it," coach Misti Cussen said. "We have talked as a team that we have not played our best basketball of the season yet."

Player to watch: Sarah Shelton. The 6-foot-3 junior transfer from SMU scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds for her first career double-double in a 77-48 win Thursday over Lamar. She entered the game as the Southland Conference leader in field goal percentage.

Notes

Climbing: ORU senior guard Kevi Luper has scored 2,578 career points, tying her with former Ohio State player Katie Smith for the 38th-most in NCAA Division I women's basketball history.

Luper needs three more points to catch former Drexel player Gabriela Marginean in 37th place.

On deck: ORU, in the midst of a season-long four-game homestand, plays a 5 p.m. Saturday game against Southland Conference preseason favorite McNeese State, which represented the league in the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons.

The Cowgirls are off to a 4-3 start in conference play.
