OKLAHOMA CITY - The number of outdated transponder units used by Pikepass customers has been reduced to about 25,000, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority members were told Friday.

The authority recently deactivated 92,000 of the old units, which are being replaced with windshield stickers, said Tim Stewart, the authority's deputy director and chief operating officer.

The remaining 25,000 units will be deactivated a month after customers receive their fifth and final notices in the weeks ahead. All should be deactivated by April, he said.

The Turnpike Authority began switching to the windshield sticker tags last March.
