Recently there has been some talk about Tulsa needing a new "logo," and that it is a misnomer to call Tulsa the oil capital of the world.
In 1905 and 1908 hundreds of men boarded "booster" trains going back East touting the Oil Capital of the World - Tulsa. Since then many have continued to boost that image. Their names are on buildings and businesses that we see every day.
Many of the hands that built them have oil on them.
We can, and do, celebrate our wonderful city in many ways. But it is impossible to forget what got us here.
If some want to add an exclamation point to that title I'll go along with that. The Oil Capital of the World! If you remember, before they opened the musical "Oklahoma!" on Broadway they added the exclamation point. Then I would add one more word, Tulsa, the First Oil Capital of the World!
