Regarding Chris Vaughn's Jan. 18 letter, "Reality check": In this letter Vaughn equates alcohol-related traffic deaths to gun deaths.

Today, in the U.S., annual traffic deaths and gun deaths are approximately the same, at about 30,000 per year each.

Currently traffic deaths hold the lead by a few thousand, but gun deaths are projected to take the lead in a year or two.

Of the traffic deaths, about 10,000, or one-third, are alcohol-related. One hundred percent of the gun deaths are caused by guns.
