Sports writer John Hoover's "Armstrong still hero," (Jan. 15), insults and demeans the efforts of thousands throughout the world who could not survive cancer; who fought just as hard as Lance Armstrong but who succumbed nevertheless.
They could not capitalize on the good fortune in surviving this dreaded disease, by lying and cheating their way to celebrity status as he did. Yes, good fortune.
Cancer is not a bicycle ride you can pedal your way through enhanced by lies, drugs and cover-ups. For this, Armstrong's deceit is all the more reprehensible and unforgivable.
He is not a hero in my book. Those who fought and died from this dreaded disease are the real heroes.
