A Tulsa woman who was driving the wrong direction on the Sand Springs Expressway was killed when her car collided head-on with another vehicle Friday evening, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Martha C. Nickelson, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said she was driving a 1995 Pontiac sedan east in the highway's westbound lanes when her car struck a westbound 2011 BMW sedan less than half a mile east of Adams Road in Sand Springs about 6:15 p.m. A westbound 2006 Jeep SUV then hit the BMW.
Nickelson was pinned in the wreckage for about an hour before being freed by Sand Springs firefighters, troopers said.
The BMW's driver, Rojeana L. Cheek-Cramer, 57, of Cleveland, Okla., had head and trunk injuries and was taken to a Tulsa hospital, where she was treated and released, the OHP reported.
The Jeep's driver, Mark J. Ball, 30, of Sand Springs had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene, troopers said.
Nickelson was the only one involved who was not wearing a seat belt, the OHP reported.
