Defensive end Cooper Bassett played his last game for Oklahoma State in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. But the Cowboys won’t be Bassett-less next season.
Dawson Bassett, Cooper’s younger brother, got a surprise scholarship offer Wednesday from OSU coach Mike Gundy and, of course, accepted.
Dawson (6-foot-4, 215 pounds) spent time at linebacker and receiver at Tuttle High School last season.
Asked what position he is projected to play at OSU, he said, “They want me as an athlete right now. I’m probably going to redshirt. We’re going to see how my body develops and matures, but they talked about me being an outside linebacker or playing as a bigger type of receiver and, if I get to my brother’s size, I may stick my hand on the ground and become a defensive lineman. There are a lot of possibilities.”
The scholarship offer came days after Bassett took a recruiting visit to Missouri, which has yet to offer a scholarship. Central Oklahoma had offered a scholarship, according to the prospect’s father, John Bassett.
