Stanvon Taylor 'committed strong' to OU

For several days, there was a persistent and compelling rumor – that East Central’s Stanvon Taylor, a four-star cornerback prospect and the 2012 Tulsa World’s All-Metro player of the year, might switch his commitment from Oklahoma to the University of Tulsa.
On Tuesday night, after he scored nine points in a 59-48 Cardinal basketball loss to Bartlesville, Taylor said his commitment to OU remains firm.
“A few schools are still coming after me, but I tell them that I’m committed strong to Oklahoma,” said Taylor, who announced his commitment to the Sooners in May. “After I sign that letter of intent, there’s a lot of relief.”
Verbal commitments are not binding. Recruits may sign national letters of intent next Wednesday. In December, Union defensive end Dalton Rodriguez switched his commitment from OU to Tulsa.
After basketball season, Taylor says he will resume strength training while attempting to defend his Class 5A state championship in the long jump. And apparently, when the 2013 football season begins, he’ll be a Sooner.
“The fact is, I’m committed to the University of Oklahoma all the way,” Taylor said. “Nothing is changing my mind at all.”
Taylor was versatile weapon for the East Central football team. As a wide receiver, he led Class 5A in receptions with 67 (for 1,107 yards and 15 TDs). As a Wildcat QB, he was 5-of-7 passing for 202 yards and two touchdowns. He was a shutdown corner on defense and an impact performer on returns.
“He's a great player – the best we faced," Collinsville coach Kevin Jones told the Tulsa World in December. “He's probably got the quickest hips I've seen in 18 years of coaching. I'll be surprised if he's not playing as a freshman at OU next year.”
