High school wrestling notebook: Wagoner stays unbeaten in tournaments

It was a typical weekend for Class 4A No. 5 Wagoner as the Bulldogs won the Maverick Conference tournament in Stilwell by 26.5 points over Vian.

"When this group was in junior high, I knew they were going to be special," said Wagoner coach Micco Charboneau.

Travis Greer (106), Brad Boswell (145), Roman Rodriguez (182) and Derek Marshall (220) grabbed wins for Wagoner, which already has qualified for dual state and has not lost a tournament this season.

Rodriguez was named outstanding wrestler for the upper weight classes.

Tyler Johnson (120), Tucker Hoffman (152) and Fischer Medlin (160) turned in runner-up finishes, while Alex Lockwood (113) and Trenton Miller (132) won consolation finals for the Bulldogs.

Locust Grove wins Pryor tournament win: Fueled by wins from Cub Yeager (126), Mike Baker (220) and Trey Love All (285), Class 3A No. 4 Locust Grove captured the Doug Rial Memorial tournament in Pryor by 7.5 points over Owasso and 13 points over Skiatook.

Teejay Aiono (195) earned a win for Owasso, while Jacob Fontanez (120), Scott Blakenship (152) and Landon Hendrickson (182) took second. Skiatook was led by Tyler Ornder's (106) runner-up finish.

Perry wins Big Four Plus Four: The annual Big Four Plus Four saw Class 3A No. 1 Perry defeat Class 6A No. 3 Muskogee by 12 points last Saturday in Stillwater.

Perry was propelled by wins from Garrett Beier (182) and Kyle Varley (220). Muskogee benefited from wins by Xavier Taylor (126), Dawaylon Barnes (145) and Jacobe Smith (152). The host Pioneers finished third, 11 points behind Muskogee, and received wins from Kaid Brock (113), King Williams (120), Joe Smith (132) and Chase Lane (138).
