Tulsa metro's jobless rate rises to 5.3 percent in December

Tulsa metro ended 2012 with a 5.3 percent unemployment rate in December, according to information released Wednesday morning by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

December’s rate rose from 5.1 percent in November, but was below the 6.8 percent recorded a year ago at the same time.

During 2012, Tulsa metro’s jobless rate ranged from a high of 7.0 percent in January to a low of 4.9 percent in April.

Nationwide, unemployment rates were lower in December than a year earlier in 290 of the 372 metros, higher in 68 areas and unchanged in 14 areas, according to the BLS.

Yuma Ariz., recorded the highest rate in December at 27.3 percent, while Midland, Texas, had the lowest rate at 3.1 percent.
