"Movie 43"
Rating: No stars (on a scale of zero to four stars)
What an awful, repugnant, stupid, unfunny movie.
Do not attend "Movie 43." I've never felt so strongly as to utter these words in a review, but there it is: Do not see "Movie 43," lest you make someone producing movies think that you like going to comedies to be offended, bored and jilted out of your money.
"Movie 43" is a collection of short films with a focus on bizarre sex acts, child abuse, racial disharmony and poking fun at the disabled. So it's not a family film.
The conceit: A bizarre, gun-toting guy (Dennis Quaid) holds a Hollywood studio executive hostage while explaining his ideas for a movie, which we then see come to life in outrageous vignettes which, for some strange reason, star some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
Kate Winslet. Hugh Jackman. Naomi Watts. Greg Kinnear. Richard Gere. Halle Berry. Terrence Howard. All have won or been nominated for Academy Awards. All should consider firing their representation after they see this movie.
There were no advance screenings for "Movie 43" for critics. We usually know what that means, and it's not so critics will give away sight gags like Winslet and Jackman playing a couple on a blind date at a restaurant, and it turning out that Jackman has genitalia hanging down from his throat.
That's right. Every obvious joke about male genitalia is merely the beginning for upcoming shock-value vignettes involving incest, sex with excrement and menstruation. But most of the jokes for 90 minutes include male genitalia.
The ultimate sin is that "Movie 43" is never funny.
