U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, in referring to the gun control debate, made a comparison of transferring a car to transferring a weapon. Coburn is a great senator, but this is not the way to frame this argument.
The ownership and operation of an automobile is a privilege, not a right. Bearing arms is one of our unalienable rights granted by God, not to be metered out to those the government decrees worthy.
Privilege is something subject to qualifications determined by the organization passing out the privilege. By equivocating gun ownership to car ownership the meaning of the terms "privilege" and "right" become clouded. The result will be an essential right guaranteeing freedom will morph into something more easily taken away altogether.
Once the Second Amendment is gone, the First Amendment will certainly fall. Thinking it cannot happen here because we are Americans is a mindset that will cause us to wake up in Hitler's Germany
