Players to watch
Blake Battenfield, Verdigris: The Oklahoma State baseball signee scored 20 in the 3A No. 5 Cardinals' 57-48 win over No. 4 Sperry on Friday. Battenfield, a 6-foot-3 senior, is averaging 15.8 points and eight rebounds. He shoots 55 percent from the field.
Jason Couch and Jordan Shive, Chouteau: Couch, a 5-10 senior guard, had 22 points with 10 assists and six rebounds in a 65-58 win over Caney Valley on Tuesday. On Friday, he had 12 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds and five steals in a 62-45 win over Nowata. Shive, a 5-11 senior guard, had 35 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the two wins. Shive averages 12.7 points and Couch 12 points with 9.2 assists,
Kortney Smith, Webster: The 5-7 junior guard had 19 points in each of Webster's wins last week against Central and East Central. He is averaging 16.4 points.
Anthony Williams, Edison: The 6-2 senior forward is not one of the Eagles' top three scorers but seems to have a knack for coming up with timely baskets or key rebounds or defensive plays. On Friday, he made the biggest shot of his career, a 3-pointer with four seconds left in overtime to defeat Booker T. Washington 54-52.
Teams to watch
Fort Gibson (16-34): The 4A No. 7 Tigers have won six in a row going into a home game against 5A No. 5 Coweta on Monday.
Henryetta (17-3): The 3A No. 7 Knights have a seven-game winning streak.
Games to watch
Jenks (14-5) at Broken Arrow (13-4) (Tuesday): These two teams are battling with Owasso for the Frontier Valley Conference title. Broken Arrow won 59-53 on Dec. 21 at Jenks. The pick: Broken Arrow, 50-48.
Central (9-6) at Memorial (15-4) (Tuesday): Memorial defeated Central 60-51 last Wednesday. The pick: Memorial, 63-57.
Bartlesville (13-4) at Owasso (14-3) (Thursday): Owasso rallied for a 73-69 win at Bartlesville on Jan. 17. The pick: Owasso, 68-65.
Coweta (16-3) at Bishop Kelley (13-6) (Friday): Coweta edged Kelley 55-52 on Dec. 18. The pick: Kelley, 51-49.
