Bright ideas: Delightful home on five acres includes many custom features

On five acres in south Broken Arrow is an attractive custom-built three-level stone-and-brick home with a swimming pool and amazing workshop.
Local builder Jerry Hall constructed the one-of-a-kind residence for Dennis and Peggy Gaffke in 2004. Prior to that, a 50-year-old house was removed from the property, which is located northwest of 131st Street and Aspen Avenue. The old cellar remains as does a water well, which irrigates the property.
“I’m a country boy,” said Dennis. “I like the fact that it’s in the country, but you’re near the city. It’s a mile and a half from the Creek Turnpike.”
The home’s interior is comfortable and charming with cherry flooring, custom woodwork, granite and marble surfaces, numerous built-ins, custom draperies and a variety of spaces for every need.
The study and formal dining are near the front entry. French doors open the study to the foyer, while the dining area is set off by columns.
Adjacent to the dining room is the kitchen, which has maple cabinetry as well as a cabinet-front refrigerator and freezer. Bosch appliances include a dishwasher, two refrigerated drawers in the island and a warming drawer under the gas stovetop. There is even a Bosch food processor built in the island for convenience.
Beyond the kitchen is the living room and breakfast nook. A beamed and vaulted ceiling, built-in entertainment center and brick-and-stone wood-burning fireplace create an inviting space for entertaining or relaxing.
Beyond the nook is a sunroom, which has a scored and stained concrete floor. It connects to the large utility room, which serves as a mud room and includes a full bath. The sunroom also provides access to the covered patio.
“It’s so nice because the kids can come in from the pool to the connected utility room to use the bath without going through the other part of the house,” said Natalie Richardson, the Chinowth & Cohen Realtor representing the property.
Doggy doors in the sunroom and garage enable pets to go in and out of the dog run next to the covered patio.
An outdoor kitchen and fireplace on the covered patio extend entertaining space as well.
The master suite on the main floor has a private patio that is perfect for morning coffee. The master bath includes his and her closets and vanities as well as a Jetta tub and separate shower.
“For a house with 6,793 square feet, I think the main level lives like a cozy house,” Richardson said.
Two bedrooms, each with its own bath, are on the second level, along with a huge bonus space that includes a pool room, sitting room and bar/kitchen. Secondary stairs access this level from the garage, and that entrance has a large storage space with cedar closet.
The third level offers two bedrooms that share a Pullman bath.
One thing that is very nice about this home is the amount of storage space available.
The large workshop is a special feature that Dennis built around the water well. Its beautiful exterior matches the home’s facade, giving it an added level of sophistication. Almost two-thirds of the workshop consists of a large concrete expanse for equipment. There also is a separate office and a full bath. The back third of the workshop is open for parking as many as four cars or an assortment of tractors and other vehicles.
“The workshop could easily be converted into mother-in-law quarters or a guest house,” Richardson said.
The home is listed for $1.35 million. For more information or to make an appointment to see the property, contact Richardson at 918-409-8497 or email to natalie.richardson@cox.net.
