Letter to the Editor: Lucky nation

Our feelings and beliefs on gun control come from the same part of our brain where such beliefs and feelings about religion and politics reside. One can no more change gun-fan beliefs than they can change the color of their eyes or the way they walk.

Their position on guns is a part of their personality. And they are right to have such beliefs. They are just as right to have such beliefs. They are just as right as a bleeding heart, liberal gun-control fan. I'm not that way because I choose to be. I'm that way because of my parents and the way I was raised.

God knows, we who find ourselves on opposite sides of a religious, political or gun issue are not that way because of intellect or logic.

What little I know about the history of nations has lead me to believe that this lucky nation, our America, with its guns and its controversy, was inevitable and a true milestone in the history of democracy.
