Fred Ross, who last February became the first player in the class of 2013 to commit to Oklahoma State, is taking his talents to Starkville. He will sign Wednesday with Mississippi State, according to his high school coach.

Ross is a Parade All-America receiver from John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. John Tyler coach Ricklan Holmes said he thinks the switch had to do with Ross having two cousins - an athletic trainer and a women's basketball assistant coach - in Starkville.

"It made him feel a little more comfortable down there with them there," Holmes said. "And the coaching staff and players, he got along well with those guys."

Did OSU do anything to fall out of favor with Ross? Holmes said Ross just preferred to go to Mississippi State.

Holmes, a former OSU player, was asked if being a Cowboy put him in a tough spot during Ross' recruitment. "It's never a tough spot because it's always about the kids," he said. "That makes it really simple for me."

Recruiting services rank Ross among the nation's top 25 receiver prospects.
