NATCHITOCHES, La. -- It took only one trip to Northwestern State for Southland Conference newcomer Oral Roberts to learn what everyone else in the league already knows: Playing in Natchitoches is not much fun for opponents.

Northwestern State threw players and pressure at ORU in waves. The Golden Eagles couldn’t stand the heat, turning the ball over a season-high 28 times and opening the biggest road swing of the regular season with an 85-73 defeat Thursday night at Prather Coliseum.

ORU (14-9, 9-2) entered the game tied with Stephen F. Austin atop the Southland Conference standings and, losing a road game for the first time since joining the league, fell into a second-place tie with Northwestern State (15-6, 9-2).

The Golden Eagles can recapture a share of the lead if they can win a Saturday road game at Stephen F. Austin, which held serve at home Thursday night against Central Arkansas.
