The Dog Bowl again returns to Cain's Ballroom, 3-6 p.m. Feb. 17 at the historic venue, 423 N. Main St.

Proceeds benefit local nonprofit Forrest and Jenny's Place animal rescue group. The day includes competitions for dogs, live music from Klondike5 String Band, eats from Capp's BBQ and a silent auction. Prizes include a pair of tickets to see Lady Gaga on March 20, as well as the April 13 Miranda Lambert tour stop, both at the BOK Center.

The annual, family-friendly fundraiser aids placement of homeless pets and public education.

A $10 entry fee applies to dogs that compete, or attend to watch events for free.

Shelton wants to be first to shake hands with vet, an arm-transplant recipient

A handshake may be a country gentlemen's contract, but it's also one serviceman's dream come true. No verbal promise could beat this deal.

Army veteran Brendan Marrocco is the first surviving double-arm transplant recipient and hopes to share his first handshake with country star Blake Shelton, reports the Taste of Country blog and Country Music Television.

"Hey Brendan @BMarr86.... I can't WAIT to shake the hand of an American Hero/Stud... You my brother," Shelton tweeted.

The veteran responded: "Holy mother of God!! I can't wait. I'm a huge fan and really looking forward to it. Thank you."
