Some highly anticipated beers recently have hit, or soon will hit, the Oklahoma market.

Recently available to Tulsa liquor stores have been beers from BrewDog of Scotland and Green Flash Brewing Co. of San Diego. Beers from Goose Island of Chicago are expected in March.

"BrewDog has lots of cutting-edge stuff," said Freddy Lamport, owner of BierGarten Wine & Spirits in Jenks.

"They have some high-alcohol beers and push the envelope with classic styles. They have a punk attitude; that's how they operate. They're kind of out there, but they make some great beers."

He said five BrewDog beers are available, including 5 a.m. Saint, an amber ale; a big, oak-aged imperial stout called Tokyo; and a hoppy Punk IPA.

Lamport said Green Flash is best-known for its West Coast IPA, "an extremely awesome, citrusy, zesty beer." He said a good Belgian trippel ale also is among the five Green Flash beers on hand.

Goose Island products have made their way here for special beer events, including the Tulsa Press Club's First Draft fundraiser, and have developed a devoted following. Its popularity took off when the Goose Island Brewpub was opened in Chicago in 1988.

"We received over 20 new beers in the past week, and we will have probably close to 40 for this month," said Lamport, who is certified through the national Beer Judge Certification Program. "These beers come and go so fast, and supplies are so limited, we are always rotating new beers in for the older beers.

"Sometimes the structures of these craft beers are so delicate that they need to be consumed fresh."
