Skid manufacturer Aether DBS is consolidating and expanding all at once, combining two local factories and moving to the Tulsa Port of Catoosa where it can grow, a company official said Thursday.
Naperville, Ill.-based Aether DBS could hire as many as 40 people after it moves into a new 45,000-square-foot facility at the port complex.
"We've got two facilities right now and we're going to consolidate into one," said Tom Blair, president of Aether DBS. "We'll be looking to expand, and it will give us room for about 40 more people after the move."
Aether makes a variety of skid systems and modules for large equipment, much of it supporting the oil and gas industry. The skids allow large equipment, such as boilers and processors, to be transported by truck, rail and water to destinations at factories or in the field.
The company currently employs 60 people in Tulsa.
Aether entered the Tulsa market in 2010 when it purchased Ely Energy, a 115-year-old Tulsa-based company that manufactures pollution abatement equipment.
For the last three years Aether has used the former Ely Energy headquarters at 11385 E. 60th Place for manufacturing, administrative and sales operations.
The company also has an 8,500-square-foot plant at 5220 S. 100th East Ave., which it will be closing with the move.
Aether will continue to make control panels at the former Ely Energy site as well as keep the administrative, engineering and sales staff there. That facility has about 16,000 square feet of space.
The larger facility will give Aether space to make larger skid systems, Blair said.
Many of the new jobs will be for welders needed to make the skids, as well as assemblers and a few other manufacturing positions.
"We are going to need mostly welders, both structural welders and pipe welders," Blair said.
