Tulsa gasoline prices jump to $3.39 a gallon

Gasoline prices in Tulsa jumped about 11 cents Thursday, following the national trend.

The most common retail price of regular-grade fuel rose to $3.39 a gallon across the metro area, the highest level so far this year.

Nationwide, gas prices rose to an average of nearly $3.56 a gallon. Drivers are paying about 25 cents more a gallon than a month ago.

A 5 percent increase in oil prices so far this year, combined with a slowdown in production at some U.S. refineries due to maintenance, has contributed to higher gas prices, industry analysts said.

Benchmark crude oil settled at $95.83 a barrel Thursday.

Mexico hits Telmex with $52 million fine

Mexican regulators have fined billionaire Carlos Slim's Telefonos de Mexico company $52 million for blocking a competitor.

Mexico's anti-monopoly commission said Thursday that Telmex refused to connect local and domestic land-line calls to Mexican competitor Axtel for 10 months in 2009 and 2011.

The move marked the third time the commission has fined Telmex for the same type of violation. The company controls nearly 80 percent of Mexico's fixed phone lines.
