Booker T. Washington boys soccer player Dakota Hardman will be advancing his career as he signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play for Southwestern College out of Winfield, Kansas.

He did so with 10 other BTW athletes, most of which were football players, at the Nathan E. Harris Fieldhouse.

“It’s everything I dreamed it would be,” Hardman said.

“I’ve been playing soccer my whole life and it’s been my dream. It’s very surreal. It’s hard to explain.

Hardman chose Southwest College over Harding College.

“I visited a couple of times and I really liked (Southwest College),” he said. “It’s not too big, I like the class sizes and the soccer team has a lot of potential and I liked that.”

Hardman won’t be going alone. Football player Melvin Gilliam is also bound for the Kansas-based institution, on a scholarship in that respective sport.

“I think it’s pretty cool having a fellow Hornet there,” Hardman said. “There are also a couple of other Hornets already up there and I like that, being around the Hornet family a lot.”
