Everyone wants to be part of a winner and Sam Johnson sees one in Henderson State.

The Sapulpa defensive end, an Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State selection, signed with the school out of Arkadelphia, Ark. Wednesday.

“Those years have paid off and now I’m making it to college,” Johnson said. “That’s what it’s all about.”

Being a winning team at the Division II level, a good school, and a liking to the area is what attracted Johnson to Henderson State.

“What really brought it to me was that they are winning more than some teams in Oklahoma and I wanted to get to a winning program, and being out of state doesn’t bother me none.”

Johnson had been looking at Northeastern State, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and East Central in Ada.

“Henderson State has been in the playoffs consecutive years in a row and hopefully I can continue to go on and play a high levels at Division II,” Johnson said. “I look forward to winning games, getting into the playoffs and going on to the next level as soon as a I can.”
