There are times when one visit feels like home.
That was the case for Booker T. Washington running back/linebacker Hollis Birmingham, who signed a letter of intent last Wednesday to play college football for Baker University out of Baldwin City, Kan.
“It’s a really big deal,” Birmingham said. “Coming in as a freshman, you never thought this chance would happen.”
It did as he inked the commitment with several other BTW athletes in front a crowd of family, coaches and friends at the Nathan E. Harris Fieldhouse.
“Once I went out on tour, (Baker) made me feel like I was part of the family,” Birmingham said. “It made me feel like everybody care where I was at.”
Birmingham chose Baker over Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and Southern Nazarene.
He said that the coaches of Baker likely saw his level of determination that led to their interest.
“They probably saw that no matter where they put me at, I’m always going to give 100 percent and I’m always going to put my heart out for the team,” Birmingham said.
“I’m ready to experience new things and try to find my way into this world,” he said. “I envision myself doing great things and hopefully becoming a pediatrician.
