Oral Roberts absorbed a costly defeat Thursday at Northwestern State, allowing the Southland Conference's eighth-place team to shoot the highest field goal percentage (.619) by a Golden Eagle opponent since 2005.
After the dust settled, ORU was in a two-way tie for third place in the Southland with McNeese State. ORU and McNeese State have 7-4 conference records and they trail Sam Houston State (9-1) and Lamar (8-3) in the standings.
Moving forward, the Golden Eagles have an opportunity to gain ground on Sam Houston State or Lamar because one of those teams is guaranteed to lose (Lamar plays Saturday at Sam Houston State).
ORU plays a Saturday road game against Stephen F. Austin, which is seventh in the league standings. The Golden Eagles beat the Lady Jacks 63-56 at the Mabee Center last month.
