CLAREMORE - A Cinderella run by Muskogee came to an abrupt end in the championship match of Saturday's dual state tournament in Claremore.

Edmond North rallied from a 10-point deficit to win eight of the final ten matches and their first dual state championship, 43-25 over Muskogee.

"We wrestled hard and I was really proud of the kids," said Muskogee head coach Bobby Jefferson.

A technical fall by Dawaylon Barnes along with pins by Jacobe Smith and James Buckhanan gave Muskogee a 17-6 lead in the final through four matches.

A decision victory by Edmond North's Derek White slowed down the Roughers and set the stage for the highly touted Dixon triplets, Lance, Joel and Andrew, who all recorded first-round pins to give the Huskies a 27-17 lead they would never relinquish.

While it wasn't a surprise to many that Edmond North was victorious, many expected the Huskies to be matched up with No. 1 Broken Arrow in the finals.

Muskogee beat Southmoore 34-31 in the quarterfinal round before stunning the top-ranked Tigers 28-27 in the semifinals.

"There were so many close matches but there are definitely no excuses," said Broken Arrow head coach Shawn Jones, whose Tigers will now begin their quest to win their fourth consecutive state tournament title.

Seven matches were decided by three points or less, with Muskogee winning all seven, including two by one point.

Broken Arrow held a 27-25 lead entering the final match but Muskogee's Chase Soper scored two points with just under 30 seconds remaining to earn a 3-2 victory.
