McALESTER — A 24-year-old woman died Monday after she apparently ran a stop sign and was struck by oncoming traffic on U.S. 69, troopers said.

Sara Basquez, 24, of McAlester was driving east on Frink Chamber Road when she failed to yield at the U.S. 69 intersection and was struck by a southbound 2011 Cadillac, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Basquez was partially ejected from the 2005 Ford Focus she was driving and died as a result of her injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt, the report states.

A 5-year-old, Mahiya Howard, who was inside the car, was treated for her injuries and released.

The driver of the Cadillac, 54-year-old Kelli Spears of Hartshorne, was transported by personal vehicle to McAlester Hospital, where she was also treated and released.
