NORMAN — Convicted murderer Jerome Jay Ersland was charged Monday with a new felony — possession of contraband in prison.
His son, Jeffrey J. Ersland, also was charged Monday with a felony — bringing contraband into prison.
Jeffrey Ersland admitted giving his father powerful painkiller patches during a visit in November, corrections officials reported. An officer found the patches in Jerome Ersland's pockets in the visiting room.
Jerome Ersland is serving a life sentence for fatally shooting a wounded, unarmed robber inside the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in south Oklahoma City in 2009. He was a pharmacist working at the drugstore at the time.
