WASHINGTON - An Oklahoma City schoolteacher has been invited to sit in first lady Michelle Obama's box on Tuesday night for the president's State of the Union speech.
Susan Bumgarner, a prekindergarten teacher, will be among the guests in the House chamber whose "day-to-day lives would benefit from the policy proposals" to be unveiled by President Barack Obama, according to the White House.
Bumgarner was recently nominated for Oklahoma City Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
A University of Oklahoma graduate, she has been working since 1992 at what is now the Wilson Arts Integration Elementary School. She has taught infants and toddlers, trained Head Start teachers and led readiness classes for parents.
