National Federation honors 20 Oklahoma high school coaches

The
National Federation of State High School Associations has selected 20 coaches
from Oklahoma as state coaches of the year in their respective sports.
Honorees from the Tulsa area are:
Jerri Berna, Bishop Kelley (volleyball)
Toby Hummingbird, Coweta (girls cross country)
Lindsay Jones, Union (girls golf)
Shawn Jones, Broken Arrow (wrestling)
David
Lynn, Union (boys swimming)
Monika
Meadows, Bixby (girls swimming)
Stacy
Risenhoover, Verdigris (girls soccer)
Misti
Roberts, Bristow (spirit).
Berna
and Roberts are among five Oklahoma honorees also chosen sectional
coaches of the year in their respective sports, eligible for NFHS’s national honor. Oklahoma is grouped with Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas in one of the NFHS's eight geographical regions.
The NFHS has recognized coaches through an awards
program since 1982. Potential award recipients complete a coach profile that includes
won/loss record and affiliation with coaching organizations, involvement with
other school and community activities, and coaching philosophy.
This year’s awards recognize coaches for the 2011-12
school year.
