TU knocks off Arkansas: After dropping the doubles point to No. 51 Arkansas, the No. 17 Tulsa men's team roared back to defeat the Razorbacks 6-1.
OSU women beat Ole Miss: The No. 36 Oklahoma State's women's team notched its fifth victory of the season on Friday, upsetting No. 26 Ole Miss 6-1 in Oxford, Miss.
Bennneteau shocks Federer: Julien Benneteau upset the sluggish Roger Federer 6-3, 7-5 on Friday to reach the semifinals of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.
Defending champion Federer struggled with his serve and the timing of his ground shots throughout the match and Benneteau capitalized, punishing Federer on his second serves, for his second victory over the Swiss master.
Serena Williams back at No. 1 with Qatar Open win: An emotional Serena Williams returned to the top of women's tennis, overcoming a series of potentially career-ending injuries since 2010 to become the oldest woman to hold the No. 1 ranking.
The 31-year-old Williams rallied from 4-1 down in the third to beat former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open on Friday.
Golf
Sooner women in sixth in Florida: The Oklahoma's women's team opened its spring season by shooting a first-round 298 Friday at the 12-team Florida State Match-up Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., to finish the day in sixth place.
Track and field
OU coach named to Team USA: Oklahoma track and field assistant coach Brian Blutreich has been named a men's assistant coach for Team USA at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, August 10-18, 2013. Blutreich will oversee the throws competitors for Team USA while in Moscow.
Baseball
OU opens with win: Junior pitcher Dillon Overton struck out seven over seven frames while surrendering just two hits to help power No. 14 Oklahoma to a 10-4 victory over Hofstra in the 2013 season opener on Friday.
ORU falls in season opener: Oral Roberts dropped its season opener to Saint Louis 4-2 on Friday.
Softball
TU gets two wins: Tulsa opened the Unconquered Invitational Friday with a pair of wins, defeating Florida State 3-2 and Hofstra 9-6.
Gascoigne leads OU to win: Michelle Gascoigne struck out a career-high 16 batters in leading Oklahoma to a 7-0 win over UC Riverside in San Diego.
OSU splits games: Oklahoma State defeated North Texas 8-0 following a 3-1 extra-inning loss to Iowa on Friday at the Lovelace Invitational, hosted by North Texas.
