While we understand the media, as represented by the Tulsa World, tries to be evenhanded and give equal time to both sides of a question, the facts remain: The effectiveness and safety of water fluoridation as a public health measure addressing the reduction of the rate of tooth decay is beyond question. Scientific evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of fluoridation is overwhelming and has been validated by scientific studies covering multiple geographic regions and diverse populations.

Those who try to introduce fear concerning what has been internationally demonstrated and repeatedly confirmed as one of the most cost-effective and powerful public health interventions ever undertaken are either sadly misinformed or intentionally deceptive. Sixty-five years of evidence cannot be overturned by irresponsible and unsupported assertions. In the case of water fluoridation, when one considers both sides of the question, one side is unequivocally wrong.
