Letter to the Editor: For two-way streets

As an occasional visitor to downtown Tulsa, I was excited about using the expensive new Boulder Avenue bridge to go home from the blossoming Brady District. But I was disappointed to find that the new bridge just dumps me into one-way westbound First Street with no other option. Even though I wanted to go east.

Why does Boulder run one-way north all the way to First Street, where traffic can only turn to the west? What are Tulsa's traffic engineers thinking? Even after several street closings and re-alignments, Tulsa still retains the same 1950s grid of one-way streets with little change - as if downtown Tulsa still had 1950s traffic for more than 15 minutes twice a day. With all those vacant buildings ... it doesn't.

Yes, I know that Boston Avenue has been switched to two-way now. That's just great. But what's left is still inconvenient, confusing, and annoying to occasional visitors like me.

Want to bring downtown Tulsa back to life south of the tracks? Try two-way streets, like there are in the Brady District. It would help a lot.
