Emily Catlin Levorsen, 82, passed away in hospice care after hospitalization in Denver, Colorado on February 3rd. She was in Colorado over the Christmas holidays visiting her son and daughter and their families. Emily was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 7, 1930, to parents Charles William Catlin and Mary Emma Binford. She was raised in Tulsa and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1952 with a degree in Business Education and a Teacher’s Certificate. Emily was a proud member and past president of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Upon graduating, she worked for the Stanolind Oil & Gas Company in Tulsa. Emily met James (Jim) Levorsen at the University of Oklahoma. They were married in Tulsa in 1955 and moved shortly thereafter to San Francisco. When their children were school age, they moved to the Belvedere Lagoon. They had celebrated 57 years of wonderful, loving marriage when Jim passed away last summer. Emily was a consummate and joyful home maker, enjoyed cooking, and never missed a meal for her family. She was seen by her children’s friends as a quintessential mom, always knowing their friends and always happy. A beautiful and gracious hostess, Emily routinely entertained friends at gatherings in their home. For many years, she and Jim were active in sailboat racing on the Lagoon, and Emily also enjoyed playing tennis with her friends at the Tiburon Peninsula Club. Emily worked as a sales clerk at The Bird and Hound in Tiburon, where her outgoing Emily Catlin Levorsen personality and smile greeted patrons for more than two decades. During retirement Jim and Emily traveled as much as possible, visiting their children and grandchildren in Colorado, visiting friends in the United States, as well as exploring Europe, Russia, Asia, Africa, South America, China, Australia and India. Emily is survived by her sister Jane Catlin Walter, who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their son Mark Levorsen and his wife Laura live in Denver, Colorado, as do their grandchildren, Hannah and Drew Levorsen. Their daughter Anne Levorsen Hammer, and her husband Ken, also live in Denver. Emily was a caring and beloved Aunt to her nieces and nephews: Elaine Walter lives in Phoenix, Arizona, Peter Walter lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jeanne Walter resides outside Seattle, Washington, and Charlie Walter currently lives in Lake Tahoe, California. Emily was also dear to all of Jim’s nieces and nephews, and she enjoyed having Daphne Levorsen Rippon and her husband David and their children Patrick and Victoria nearby in Novato, California. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Friday February 22nd at 1 pm, located at 3 Bayview Ave in Belvedere, followed by a reception in celebration of her life at Kimball Hall, also at the church. All are welcome. Donations in memory of Emily can be made to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Foundation, 1501 Tiburon Blvd, Tiburon, CA 94920.
