Letter to the Editor: Disgusted

I felt enraged, disgusted and physically sick after reading Sen. Mark Allen's Senate Bill 375, which would allow the operation of horse slaughterhouses in Oklahoma. America does not and should never eat its horses nor should it export horse meat overseas. It's akin to butchering our own cats and dogs for meat consumption and is morally and ethically wrong.
Horses are highly intelligent, majestic animals and next to the dog as man's best friend. They do not deserve to be subjected to the horrors of a slaughterhouse.
It's disgusting to think that Oklahoma might end up being possibly the only state to allow this, but, hey, at least we would be first in something.
Maybe a better use of our senators' time would be to focus their attention on more lofty goals such as education, roads and health care; you know - things we actually rank last or nearly last in.
And do we really want the dubious distinction of being the only operating slaughterhouse in the U.S.? Oklahoma's reputation will only suffer more if this bill is allowed to pass.
I urge everyone to please contact your representative and everyone on this nine-member committee to let it be known that we will not stand for the passage of this barbaric and inhumane bill. They really make us proud, don't they?
