The special primary election for the District 3 Tulsa County Commission seat occupied by Fred Perry will be held June 11, according to an executive proclamation issued by Gov. Mary Fallin on Tuesday.

Perry announced last week that he will retire effective July 8 due to health issues. His term expires Dec. 31 2014.

In his letter to the governor announcing his resignation, Perry recommended that Fallin make the County Commission election dates the same as those already in place for the city of Tulsa mayoral election.

In the proclamation, Fallin did just that, setting the County Commission special primary election for June 11 and the special general election for Aug. 13. If the special primary election is not needed, the special general election would be held June 11.

Under the city's new nonpartisan election process, the mayoral primary will be held June 11, the primary runoff -- if needed - Aug. 13 and the general election Nov. 12.

The filing dates for county commission candidates will be the same as those for mayor: April 8-10.

So far, two former state legislators, John Wright and Ron Peters, both Republicans, have expressed interest in running for Perry's seat.
