White and white-like hues have become acceptable to wear after Labor Day, but spring - when the weather is warming up and things are starting to bloom - remains the most appropriate time to don white fashion. From cotton white to warm vanilla, celebrate leaving the bleak winter for bright and sunny spring.

Designer Maria Stevenson, co-owner of Tulsa-based Vestida Designs, said she's excited to see white as a hot color for the spring because she is a white fanatic. It's a classic simple color "just begging for you to add that personality kick to your ensemble."

Try white in dresses, trendy tuxedo jackets or an endless variety of blouses and button-down shirts all the way down to white shoes that no one can miss.

Rachel Kern of Miss Jackson's said the department store is seeing a lot of fresh takes on white for the spring season.

"It can evoke a lot of different feelings, depending on the fabric, cut and the elements with which you choose to pair it. It can be really clean and minimal, or ethereal and feminine," Kern said.

White plays well with the season's bright accessories, Kern added, but she also loves the contrast of soft white garments with black leather accessories or reflective metallics.

Pair your white wear with brightly colored accents or some pieces in Lucite - another hot trend for the spring.

"Lucite accessories are a hot trend right now that have been seen all over the runways," said Sofia Wacksman, vice president of trend for Kohl's department stores. "These versatile pieces help add a sleek and sophisticated feel to almost any look."

Add a modern touch with a chunky Lucite bracelet or pendant. Bring some ultra-chic style to an all-white outfit with Lucite sandals or sunglasses.

And as far as all-white ensembles go, Kern said people should give it a try.

"Just be conscious of the fit when wearing an all-over white look, since the color can be unforgiving."

Stevenson recommended that if you're going to wear an all-white outfit, focus on pieces that accentuate your favorite body features and hide areas you are not a fan of.

"But you can never go wrong with a white shift dress," she said.

White for the occasion

Maria Stevenson, of Vestida Designs, offers some suggestions on incorporating white fashion into your wardrobe, taking you from the office to off for the weekend.

"Obviously white is a great canvas color to work with in your wardrobe," Stevenson said. "I love white dresses because they are fun to add your personality to with some fun bright shoes or a classic nude color."

And if you're an accessory person, white will make that statement piece really pop.

Business casual: "I've always been a fan of the white poplin top, which can be incorporated into just about any look."

Throw on some of your favorite jeans, a scarf and some loafers "and you will look like an Us Weekly star shopping for groceries."

Brunch beauty: Be daring and take it up a notch. Wear a white poplin blouse with a beautifully colored long, full skirt and some fun fashion jewelry or diamonds, Stevenson said.
