DUNCAN — Authorities said a worker was seriously injured when he was crushed by a platform at an oil well site in Stephens County.

Authorities said Mickey Pruitt of Velma suffered multiple injuries after the accident Tuesday afternoon. Lawton television KSWO reports that Pruitt is in stable condition at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Sheriff Wayne McKinney said Pruitt was crushed by a work-over platform, a device that's lowered onto a well in need of repair. The sheriff said either a chain or cable failed and the work-over platform fell on top of Pruitt.

Authorities said the platform weighed between 500 and 800 pounds. It took four men to lift the platform off the worker.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the accident.
