GROVE - In preparation for crowds that are expected to number in the thousands for the 2013 Bassmaster Classic, Grove city leaders Tuesday announced street closings near Wolf Creek Park.
The park, the site of the fishing tournament, is west of Grove just off Oklahoma 59. The tournament begins on Friday and ends Sunday.
Two streets, 21st Street and 16th Street, will be closed east of Oklahoma 59 from 4 to 8 a.m. and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. during the tournament, police Sgt. Jerry Bohannan said.
A traffic officer will be stationed at the intersection of the highway and the road leading into the park, he said.
Bohannan addressed a crowd of about 60 residents during the city's regular City Council meeting.
"We want the least disruption as possible," Bohannan said when residents asked about access to their neighborhoods during the tournament.
Residents will be able to use 36th Street during those times, he said.
Mayor Marty Follis said spectator crowds could be upwards of 6,000 people.
Shuttle buses will be located at the Cheapo Depo and Sharpe's Department Store parking lots, Bohannan said.
